"Knitting and crocheting has been my hobby since childhood. I started making stuffed toys for children hospitals several years ago. It has become a passion, I absolutely love making them. My “Critters” are a nice cuddly, hug-gable, lovable size for the children. And what’s truly amazing is how much pure pleasure a person can receive by creating them."
My patterns are written so that they are easy to follow, and include photos and instructions to help you. If you haven’t tried making a toy using the knitting in the round method, give it a try, your in for a very pleasant surprise! If you have a question contact me at bjfromnv@gmail.com

Skyler Scarecrow has landed!

Got the test knit done last night. And I think they really came out cute!

buddies

I don’t think they are scary looking at all! And guess what? His hat is attached, it doesn’t come off.  Sending the toys to the children's’ hospital has always been a concern. I don’t want the children to be frightened by the toys. I think when they are sick they are more sensitive. I remember being home sick in bed  with Pneumonia, I was about 9 or ten and my Mom just had to come in my room and vacuum? It was a hoover vacuum and was very noisy. I never forgot that, and all that noise really made me feel awful! Funny how you never forget things like that.sky2

Haven’t gotten much done so far today, other than getting all the business ends of this pattern taken care of. My husband mentioned that it’s too bad that I didn’t get my inspiration about a month sooner? Its true, but you can’t help when lightening will strike. Right?sideshot

Well I hope you are having one terrific Friday afternoon. I hope you have had a great week, and I hope you are enjoying yourself. Happiness is a state of mind, make it yours. Talk to you later.

Going to start the test knit tomorrow, so it should be showing up pretty darn soon. Still working on the sweater. Gee I hope its not going to be too big. Hmmm wouldn’t be the first time that has happened.dogtreats

Anyway just wanted to drop in and say hello. All is well at this end of the earth. Hope this finds you the same. Life can be fun………hope you are enjoying yours. Manana………….

It’s raining in Idaho!

Good Saturday afternoon to you. How you doing? Yes, we got a nice drizzle of rain coming down. Out the door early to go down and wrap some boxes that will get filled with some goodies for children. Met some new people and had a nice time. Any thing you do for needy children is always time well spent.

I am working on another pattern, but while that’s going on I wanted to try this pattern out. It’s called the Looking Glass Sweater and it is written by Kathryn Ashley-Wright. Its an interesting pattern and I like being able to throw some color in to the works. I also liked the shorter sleeves for wearing inside and knitting, if I have on a long sleeved sweater, I find myself trying to pull the sleeves up and get them away from the yarn.  I haven’t taken any pictures yet. I’m making mine in a dark gray, and using a Caron variegated yarn that has some really pretty bright jewel colors, in fact it’s the same variegated yarn I used for one of my ducks. I have already changed a few things, like casting on and including the button bands. As you know I don’t like to sew anything on, and its not been that much trouble to keep track of everything. I only made two buttonholes, I think I will keep the sleeves the same, but I’m not so sure about the picot edges might change that. But so far I’m liking how its coming along. I have divided for the sleeves and am coming down the body. We will see.

Had a rather interesting experience. I shipped  my used laptop off to Nevada, and since it weighed over 14 pounds, I did send it snail mail. It didn’t cost as much as I thought it would. I didn’t get delivery confirmation or insurance, but I did keep the receipt. So several days later, I noticed a postal receipt laying on the kitchen table, I picked it up and noticed that it had been sent to a town I used to live in in California?ra2 So I’m kind of scratching my head thinking I wonder what this is, and who sent something to this town? It was then that I noticed the date and the amount and realized I had sent the laptop to the wrong zip code! Everything was correct, except I had put the wrong zip code. So I got on the phone and talked to our local post office and they told me that they strictly go by the zip code so that it will get there and just end up coming back to me. I shipped the package the 7th of this month, so I called the recipient and told them what I had done, and if by any chance they got the package to be sure and let me know.

So last Thursday I decided maybe I should call the post office in Ca. and see if they have any recollection or see if they had any info. The man I talked to said the woman who had that p.o. box did in fact receive a lot of packages. He took my name and phone number and said he was going to call that lady. Well I never heard anything back from him. raSo then I decided to call the police dept. down there and ask them if this lady had kept the laptop if there was anything I could do about it. And the officer informed me that if a package is delivered to the wrong address and they decide to keep it there is NOTHING they can do about it? I guess you learn something new everyday. I had many thoughts going through my head at this point. And I couldn’t help but keep thinking that I had started this entire fiasco. Can’t remember names, but I can remember a zip code from over 20 years ago???? So I did call the post office back in Ca. and this time I talked to a woman who told me that the name DOES have to match up with the box, so I became more hopeful at this point, but she did tell me that they could not change the zip, that it would in fact be sent back to me and that I would have to pay for shipping again. So I felt I had gone as far as I could, and decided that the Postal Gods would have to take over from here, because I had done all I could.

So about 7pm last nite, I checked my email and guess what? The Postal Gods  had taken pity on this nerd,  the package had been sent  to Nevada and delivered!  PEACE!

Hi dee do!

Well, how goes it? Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. I guess if I wanted to get more done in a day, I would need to quit playing poker. poker But guess what? That’s not gonna happen. It’s the game you love to hate. You fellow poker players know what I’m talking about. It’s such a great game, and of course I’m into Texas hold-em. That’s where I play, you will meet some of the nicest people on Full Tilt Poker. You don’t have to play real money, play tokens, I guarantee you will have just as much fun. But if you get hooked on playing, I don’t want to hear about it. Believe me I know how much fun it is, so give it a try.

On the knitting front, I did finish the wabbit. She came out pretty cute.fall I used my wabbit pattern, I just didn’t use the furry yarn, but the yarn I used has a nice fuzzy texture to it. The colors look and remind me of Easter, not that time of year that’s for sure. But this is fall, and the leaves are turning. I ordered a new welcome banner, I went to Joann’s twice and all they had were the small garden ones. So I got this one and another Xmas one. I think he’s really cute. And of course any thing colorful is right up my alley. We have starting burning wood, so it’s getting to be that time of year. They just called and the machine we need to blow the insulation in to the back room will be available tomorrow. So that’s good that we will be able to get that done. Anything to save energy and keep warm at the same time, right?

Well lets see I wanted to show you a  picture of the wabbit also. I got a yarn scale, so I can be very exact about the amount of yarn it takes to complete a project.   It will be interesting to see if there are more people knitting in the winter. Of course some of us do needle work all year round. I’ve even been thinking about a sweater, or some socks? Actually this is the time of year you need to figure out what your going to make for everybody, get your yarn and get started. Because before you know it you will be staying up way too late trying to finish that last present. Now you can’t say I didn’t give you a reminder early enough. Right?  Hmmmm, must be the winter thing. Cozy up in your comfortable chair, watch TV and work away. Just sooooo much fun! So this is Wanda Wabbit II.wandaIILike I said, I didn’t use a furry yarn, I used a second yarn for the bottom of her feet.  You can’t see her tail with this shot, but I will post her on Ravelry, so you will see her profile.  I just loved working with this yarn. Very nice, its Sensations by Joann’s. Very soft, I’ve used it before and its really nice to work with, I think it would make a really pretty sweater for a child or adult, what do you think? I know you could make a toy, and a sweater to match! How cute would that be? Giving myself ideas…….. Well I hope you’ve had a really nice day. Love is the answer………………:)

Two more how to videos added to my blog!

Well I finally got two more videos made and uploaded today. The first is about increasing, using M1 working in the round on double pointed needles. The second is about W&T or short rows. I  also have them posted in the tut, link, & info page. Here is the link for my Playlist  with all four videos called “Knitting in Circles” on YouTube

How to Knit:" M1" increase knit in the round on dp needles

How to Knit: W&T or short rows on double pointed needles

It’s my hope that these videos will help answer any  questions, or help alleviate any problems someone is having knitting in the round.  My patterns are intended to be knit using double pointed needles. Knitting in the round with double pointed needles, is not quite the same as with working with circular needles. If the word seamless is associated with a pattern, you can bet I’ll be interested. Most everything I make I try to make it seamless, so I convert most patterns that I knit. I guess it must be pretty obvious by now that I’m not crazy about seaming. I really love making  toys, and I feel that they are sturdier because  their appendages are not sewn on but picked up and knit. So on the knitting front:
I’ll unravel that head and prepare it for a demo of “Intarsia” knitting in the round. I will again use the big needles and lighter yarn in the hopes that this will make the stitches easier to see. So with any luck I should have that done tomorrow. Still one of my favorite words, Manana! Still working on my wabbit, coming out cute………you know the drill………..have fun :)with a song in our heart!                                     With a song in my heart!

What did you do today? huh?

Well the insulating didn’t get done. The machine we need to do it, was still out when we tried to pick it up this morning. So we are on the list, whatever that means. Kind of like on call? Oh well it will get done. Had postponed the walk to a later hour, thinking we would get the insulating done first. dogsleep So a little before 10 I headed out the door, had a little 3 year old along for the ride, what a sweet child. Happy, pleasant and not one whine came out of that beautiful little boy. Such a pleasure to be around, we really had a lot of fun. Sometimes when your around small children like that you remember its the little things that count.

Found out yesterday, that a very dear friend of ours had open heart surgery, he is doing well but he is still in the ICU. As with any surgery, it will take a while for him to recover. As a result of this there will be changes made to help accommodate his convalescence. butterfly That’s the thing about life that we tend to forget sometimes, that nothing ever stays the same. Change is around us constantly. We try to act like nothing is happening but deep inside we know, so when we are pulled up short by alarming news, the reality of life sets in once again. That’s why its so important to get all your ducks in a row, do the very best you can, and have fun. Now, not later, you might not have later. Oh, you can diet and exercise and do all the right things, but “what will be, will be.”

If you ever get a chance to listen to this song, check it out. It’s one of my favorites:

CRAZY - GNARLS BARKLEY

I remember when, I remember
I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place
Even your emotions have an echo in so much space
And when you're out there without care
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Possibly
And I hope that you are
Having the time of your life
But think twice
That's my only advice
Come on now, who do you
Who do you, who do you, who do you think you are?
Ha ha ha, bless your soul
You really think you're in control?
Well, I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me
My heroes had the heart
To lose their lives out on a limb
And all I remember
Is thinking, I want to be like them
Ever since I was little
Ever since I was little
It looked like fun
And it's no coincidence I've come
And I can die when I'm done
But maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy
Maybe we're crazy
Probably

fun

P.S. got a wabbit on my needles and a song in my heart. I’m having fun now! :)

Too much Poker, not enough time?

Well I didn’t get the videos done. Hmm well what’s my excuse? Aw shucks guess I don’t have one.lazy Got involved in a poker tournament that took most of the afternoon. So my ambition kind of went out the window. Needed to do an errand early this morning, so there went the morning. Had another tournament this afternoon, and I haven’t got nuttin done. Nothing on my needles. I did stop by the local yarn store, and of course I came home with some lovely variegated yarn, I have used this type before, but I have been eyeballing this color for a long time. I like the look of dark to light and vice versa. But I need to make another bunny, I got so busy with the patterns that all of a sudden seemed like there were just too many things to do.

Tomorrow we need to do some insulating and I don’t know how long that’s gonna take. With winter coming on, its time to start batting down, its not that warm to day. Got lots of sunshine going on outside, no wind. lazy2 So I think I will go take a little late afternoon stroll. Been still packing my pepper spray, trying to keep the neighbors dog from coming along with me. Since she is a cat killer and a chicken killer, I really don’t like having her, because if something happens, I’m going to feel responsible. She likes to meander down the road and when cars come by they always look at me like, do something with the dog? She’s not my dog!!!

So I think I’ve got a little case of the blah’s, so some fresh air should take care of that. That reminds me my ear jacks for my mp3 player are shot. In the left ear nothing but static on the bass. Knew I was forgetting something lazy3 when I was in BiMart. Oh well, always something. So, I think I will get out side and see what’s going on. Might be 60 degrees out there, so it might be a little nippy for a few minutes. I hope your having a good day, and remember, if you don’t have any thing good to say, don’t say anything at all! Later……………..p.s. and when I get back me and that couch are going to get acquainted!

I’m a Country Duck

Well we had our first sign of frost this am. Result: tomato plants have disappeared, strange how that happens every year.rescued  A garden spider got disturbed in the process, but just to show what a nice guy I’m married to he moved it over to the the zucchini plants. I guess in the process his own web got wrapped around his back, so he actually had to be rescued twice! But he did just fine. How kewl is that?

Had some variegated yarn, I’ve had in my stash for soooo long. When I think about it, I must have had that yarn for 20 years! It’s Red Heart nothing that special, but it just has so many of the colors that I love. Funny how you can just have a dab of yarn, and you hang on to it like that. bj crochet bears So in my foraging, I have been coming across it. I save all my little balls of yarn, and when I get enough of them I make an afghan using the neatest pattern. Let me look and see if I can find the link. I found it:  The Mindless Knitting, TV Watching, Scrap User-Upper Afghan! It really is the neatest pattern, perfect for all those odd ball bits of yarn you end up with. And the way you put the colors together will blow your mind. Hint: do exactly as it says and even you will be amazed how the colors will come together. Anyway, I got off track again didn’t I? Oh well. I’m thinking I do have a couple of pictures of this pattern. That’s one of them with the arrow pointing at it. I have made several of these afghans and I just love them. These are some of the first bears I made. I still have the little guy.:)

Anyway, where the heck was I? Oh yeah, the variegated yarn. Well I finally decided to use it, and I used every bit of it. None left, nada. But since the project is for me my country duck, unless someone comes along and just has to have it? p.s. he does have a matching scarf!

DSCF2818

I guess we are all just over grown kids, I know I am. But lets see, country duck. Well, that’s me and that’s the name of my latest project. Calvin the Country Duck. Well I’m gonna try to make a couple of videos today. Wish me luck……you know the routine……have fun

Demetrius Dee Duckling

Well, I am proud to announce a new addition to my patterns. Demetrius is a sleep baby duckling knit entirely in the round. He’s been floating around in my head for a while now. I was so glad to get the time to set down and get him started and completed. Demetrius

Out for a walk this morning, not so much limping going on. Foot is feeling much better, but I made a real effort not to do any stepping on rock and no twisting, the Achilles tendon when slightly injured can sure cause allot of pain. :( I found a picture of my self taken a few years ago. I am not a skinny person by any means. But this picture was taken while I was probably my heaviest. And I had given up walking. And if I remember correctly I had been up visiting my Mom and she was running circles around me. We were planting something in her the end garden, and I was panting and sweating like crazy. It was then that I decided I may never be a skinny person, but there was no reason for me to let myself get so totally out of shape. I stuck the picture on the front of the fridge. I just looked and it was taken in May 2000. So I started walking again 10 years ago! What the heck happens to the time? Amazing isn’t it? Anyway, walking is so good for you, and if you can do a few arm exercises with some free weights.  Doesn’t take that much time, but the rewards are awesome.

Okay, enough of that. Don’t want to be harping or nagging, I am not into that. So when I had Demetrius finished, I considered making him a scarf. I made the scarf, but it just didn’t do much for him. So I thought how about a hat? I mean all ducklings need a hat, right? And I know kids love to put their clothes on and off, so that’s when I thought might just be the thing.DSCF2773

Not sure if I have taken the best pictures to show how cute he is. I have made his cousin Donnie Dee Duckling. He’s pretty sweet. I just get such a kick out of these little critters, I’m always telling people they need to make a couple of toys, they are just so much fun to make. Well I will talk at ya later, here’s a picture of Demetrius and Donnie outside taking in some sun!DSCF2804                  Did you notice that Donnie has blue eyes? :)

This just “Dawned” on me!

Out this morning checking out my  boots. Seeing how comfortable purple boy tea they feel, and I am happy to report, they felt and still feel very very nice. The wool socks really do the trick, and the fact that they aren’t too thick really helps also. Left foot still having problems, so don’t know if its up for a four hour hike or not. I’m up for it, just not sure how that tendon will do. Anyway………………………

Went to pick Foxy up from the Vet yesterday, and they had to pull some of his teeth! I was totally shocked. Made me feel really bad for him, but I guess if they needed to come out, that’s what they had to do. He was pretty goofy coming home, should have asked the man to ride along. And when he let out a big groan, and I’m thinking they didn’t even give me anything for him for pain? So the first thing I did when I got home was call them andbuddies ask if he should have something and they said dogs handle it really well? Whatever that means? The man being ever considerate had cooked him some rice and chicken, a treat for sure. But under the circumstances, it was really great to be able to offer him some soft food. Well  you would have thought the dog hadn’t eaten in days, the way he inhaled it. Of course his beard was full of debris. He’s doing better today, doing a lot of sleeping. So while I was walking I was thinking of all this and I remembered that my Brutus Bee Beastie Boy has a new home and a new buddy. Now, how cute is that?

Just thinking about a little gal that grew up with my daughter, she is very special to me. She and I have always had a lot in common, neither of us had anythingPurple boy given to us. We both have had to work for everything, and that means everything. She is one terrific little gal, and I am very proud of her.

I just want to reach out and say “I love you Dawn!” Have fun……………. there’s no  time like the present.

What day is it?

Well everybody in the house got a shot today, except Miss Iodine the kitty. Needed to take the pooch to the vet for his 3 year rabies shot.my dude We had already planned on getting our flu shot today, so we all went to town and came back vaccinated! How funny is that? Course we didn’t get our temperature taken, but Foxy did!  ROFL Anyway, he’s gotta go back Thursday and get his choppers cleaned. If your going to have animals, take care of them. :) He’s eleven years old and been one of the best dogs I’ve ever had. Don’t get me wrong, I love all animals. Just got a special place in my heart for dogs. That afghan was a project I made for my daughter, that’s the colors she has in her bedroom.

Well I got the wabbits mailed off yesterday. One I had actually made for myself, some of the yarn had been in my stash for some time for  that extra special project. So when we had some distantDSCF2716 family stop by and take an immediate love for the wabbit, I had agreed to make her a couple. One for her and one for a grand-daughter. I got a note from her, asking about the wabbits, I couldn’t believe its  been almost a year since the visit. So I decided that she needed to have my wabbit, because I knew she loved her as much as I do. The wabbit on the left is the one I made for myself.  So I got busy and made the little gal on the right! I had the shoes, panties, and dress ready and waiting. And there is a little shrug also. All the clothes are removable except for the shoes.

Sounds crazy, but sometimes you do get attached to things. I think they remind you of other things, obviously something nice. I do watch that television show “Hoarders” I find that show really fascinatingDSCF2720 . I have seen a tendency towards that in my grandmother, my aunt, and my mother. So I am extra aware of the fact, that a person does not need to collect much of anything. I had a dear friend who had just the opposite problem, she didn’t keep anything. Not even her Xmas ornaments! Think about that for a little bit.

Still working on my latest pattern. Had to redo the body, but its coming right along. Should be able to finish it tonite. I think I have done the hardest part. You notice I’m not giving any hints? I want to surprise you. LOL………….Just want to drop in and say Hi! Are you having fun yet? Don’t put if off……..

Where did the sun go?

Did a quick lap this morning, also threw in some deep breathing. Think I will definitely get in the habit of doing that a couple of times a day. Sure won’t hurt a thing, since I’m an ex-smoker. A habit I sure don’t miss. I quit 6 years ago, I was still working in the Smoke Shop and a lot of people thought it was quite amazing that I was able to quit smoking andDSCF2691 continue working there. But as I told them, there were a couple of times that the craving hit. When that happened I had a plastic stir stick that you can get from any 7-eleven or place that sells coffee to go. I would just put that puppy in my mouth and chew on it, etc. Smokers are oral people and we like putting things in our mouth, don’t laugh, it’s true! So by putting that stick in my mouth it just simply relieved the craving. Worked for me, and according to a lot of people I talked to, it worked for them also. Much better than a tooth pick, they get soft and fall apart. Nobody even notices either.  How did I get off on that?

Well I got Eddie finished last night. Came out pretty cute. The sun was shining brightly whenDSCF2699 I took off walking. I thought about taking his picture before  I left, I like to take pictures with a soft light. But since we have quite a few clouds today, I thought it would be fine by the time I got back. Well it looks like it wants to rain? But I got some nice shots. I love this pattern, because of the fact that it is totally safe for the smallest infant. And of course, I love those huge “Dumbo the Elephant” like ears. I loved that story when I was a kid. I hope you have a great day, I’m working on it! :)

Greetings fellow knitters?

Just dropping in, had a few problems with the blog a couple of days ago, so it’s very pleasant indeed to see everything load the way it’s supposedDSCF2688 to. One little “i” not dotted can certainly do it. Had a very interesting day to say the least, very very pleasant. We were up in Midvale, and I thought we were going to see more of the Rail Trail. Well we did see a little bit of it, very pretty up there, a beautiful day, would have been perfect for a good walk. But under the circumstances, it was short, but it was most enjoyable. The people I met up there were just marvelous, honest, sincere, and very friendly. We had a delicious lunch, everything was scrumptious!(This is a picture as you are starting to cross the bridge in Midvale, this is the old piling for the previous bridge that was taken out in a flood. I should have taken a picture of the new bridge, its really quite impressive.)

And I got to hear some of the most beautiful music from a very talented husband and wife. They DSCF2689 are a real tribute to humanity, and there devotion to their beliefs and to each other was absolutely impeccable and pristine. Was truly inspiring, shows you its not necessary to absolutely agree with everything someone else does. But to see the devotion and joy they give and receive was very powerful indeed.(I didn’t notice the sign in this picture until I down loaded it on my computer. It says Matt Smith?)

So on the knitting front, just about got my little critter done. I will show you what he looks like in blue. He just needs one more leg and a couple of ears! I hope you have had a good day and I hope tomorrow is even better!
